ACCOYA WOOD
ACCOYA
This name is applied to a wood treatment patented by a Dutch company, Titan Wood BV, Arnhem, which by means of an acetalization process (insertion of acetic anhydride) causes an irreversible chemical-physical variation throughout the wood mass and not just on the surface. Acetalization neutralizes the water-absorbing powers of the cellulose in the cell walls of the wood which causes deformation and attacks by xylophagous fungi.
For these reasons, after Accoya treatment wood is more stable and has higher resist-ance to marcescence, not to mention the problem of cracking and splitting typical of conventional solid wood.
