NICKEL-FREE STAINLESS STEEL
The adverse effects of nickel ions being released into the human body have prompted the development of high-nitrogen nickel-free austenitic stainless steels for medical applications. Nitrogen not only replaces nickel for austenitic structure stability but also much improves steel properties. The eyewear industry is greatly interested in a steel alloy that offers the traditional and indispensable mechanical and anticorrosive characteristics of metal frames, but also has good cold deformability properties and, at the same time, respects the limits prescribed by the European Community standards concerning nickel.
